The first of a series of student-organized events seeking to promote the use of peaceful and nonviolent means to achieve positive social outcomes. Initially conceived as a healing salve for violence and war in Ukraine, the series will serve as a general call to stand for peace and unity over discord and division. The program will look at the meaning of peace through the lens of art culture, featuring selections of music, dance, visual art, theater, short film, and literature from today and the ages.
6:00pm-7:00pm: Artistic performance including local performers and artists as well as a performance of the Simurgh-Quintet by contemporary Ukrainian composer Victoria Polevá, inspired by the ancient Persian poem The Conference of the Birds by Farid ud-Din Attar. The Simurgh-Quintet will feature dancers from the University of Utah School of Dance.
7:30pm-9:30pm: The Utah premiere of the film "The Sky Was on Fire: Ballet and War in Ukraine" by Adrenaline Films. Tickets are required for the film screening!
An accompanying art exhibition will be on display in the lobby from 2:00 PM to the close of the event.
