Cory Mon

..music, my blessing, my curse, its in me and it must come out i can't help it, i must play, write, compose and perform. Without i am incomplete, while with call me misfit in this world of the incorporated. I am a man confused and divided thus in recourse i am often brightened and enlightened. I emphatically give way to both light and dark, i live in pleasure and pain. my name: cory. Singer/songwriter Cory Mon has a distinctly unique, albeit pleasant voice in the world of music. “Happy (sometimes sad), gritty, funky, folksy, bluesy, rocky music… I guess”… he says when asked the dreaded, “So what type of music do you play?” Assuming the life of a musician, Cory has thrived as well as endured through the many ups and downs that have come throughout his well tenured 20+ year music career. Cory has released 60+ original songs and toured with and/or supported a handful of his favorite artists: JJ Grey & Mofro, Sean Hayes, The Avett Brothers, Patterson Hood etc.  www.corymon.com

Science Unwrapped - Why Queen Bees Can Have It All

Talk Description

All living things, including people, face trade-offs. We only have so much time and energy to accomplish the things we want to do. Animals strive to reproduce, live as long as possible and defend their young, but sometimes they have to give up one or more of these goals. Queen bees, on the other hand, have lots of helpers that enable them to avoid more trade-offs than most other animals, and to accomplish more of what they want to do.

USU biologist Karen Kapheim and her graduate students study the fascinating lives of social bees. Karen will tell us about the lives of queen bees, and will share what these creatures can teach us about evolutionary processes.

Admission is free and all ages are welcome.

HADESTOWN

Welcome to HADESTOWN, where a song can change your fate. Winner of eight 2019 Tony Awards® including Best Musical and the 2020 Grammy® Award for Best Musical Theater Album, this acclaimed new show from celebrated singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell and original director Rachel Chavkin (Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812) is a love story for today... and always.

HADESTOWN intertwines two mythic tales — that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone — as it invites you on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. Mitchell’s beguiling melodies and Chavkin’s poetic imagination pit industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love. Performed by a vibrant ensemble of actors, dancers and singers, HADESTOWN is a haunting and hopeful theatrical experience that grabs you and never lets go.

Science Unwrapped - Earthquakes: Predicting the Unpredictable

Talk Description

You can see dark clouds forming in the distance and prepare for a storm. Hurricane forecasters can pinpoint disturbances over oceans, track their movements and predict where and when they might strike land. Not so with earthquakes, says USU geophysicist Srisharan Shreedharan – at least not yet. Srisharan and his graduate students make tiny earthquakes or “labquakes” in his innovative “earthquake machines.” At Science Unwrapped, Srisharan and master’s student Lindsey Broderick will share what they’re learning and how their efforts could improve earthquake forecasting broadly, and closer to home, along the Wasatch Fault Zone in Utah.

Admission is free and all ages are welcome.

Led Zepagain - A Tribute to Led Zeppelin

Marking their 40th year, Sony recording artists Led Zepagain have become highly regarded as the most accurate and authentic replication of Led Zeppelin in the world today. With well over a million downloads on iTunes to their credit, their popularity has also seeped into pop culture, having been mentioned on the network TV shows “The Gilmore Girls”, “Chicago Fire” and “Bad Judge”!

In January, 2004, Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page himself attended a Led Zepagain show at the House of Blues in Los Angeles. He was absolutely astonished at the band’s accuracy stating “It’s amazing how much you sound like us. You must have grown up on this because you were inside the music, and you paid attention to detail in your presentation…I can tell you guys really love our music!”

This encounter led to the members of Led Zepagain attending Led Zeppelin's 2007 Reunion Concert at London's O2 Arena by invitation of Mr. Page as well as a surprise visit from Jason Bonham in March, 2009 as he sat in with the band on their encore performance of the song “Rock and Roll”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2w6noToYSqQ

Led Zepagain was honored to have been featured on AXS TV’s “World’s Greatest Tribute Bands” in 2014 and were asked to come back for an encore performance in March, 2017 to perform the iconic Led Zeppelin “lV” album in its entirety.

Having played nationally and internationally, from Japan to Paraguay and Germany to Mexico City, Led Zepagain regularly performs to packed houses all over the world. We guarantee that from the sound, and the look, to the vintage equipment and costuming, Led Zepagain will be the closest thing that you will ever see to a live Led Zeppelin performance! Come on out and see what Jimmy Page was talking about.
